PT Reasuransi Nusantara Makmur (Nusantara Re) was established on 19 July 2017, licensed by the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (FSA) or Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) to commence its operations as a reinsurance firm. Nusantara Re's business complements the work of existing reinsurance companies, which have contributed greatly to the national insurance industry.

Nusantara Re's establishment is also intended to support the government, particularly the OJK, in their capacity-building efforts for local reinsurers to minimize the balance of payment deficit in reinsurance premium flowing overseas.

Indonesian reinsurance companies aim to manage the enormous potential of domestic premium incomes by retaining more domestically towards wealthier society alongside the nation development.
